It's been a coupla years since I took a shot at this, but I'll take another one. About 4-5 years ago I came across some Geophagus iporangensis from a reputable wholesaler (worked at an LFS at the time). The Juvies would have retailed for ~$15 or $20 apiece, so I was lucky to grab them at wholesale price. Out of four, I ended up with a breeding pair. The male is about hand size, and the female is a good deal smaller. I work mostly with native fish, and don't get into the nitty gritty of IDing cichlids unless they are one of our #&*@ing invasives. Does anyone know of a key (preferably in English, but Spanish or Portuguese is OK) for breaking up the brasiliensis complex? I'd appreciate any help with this, thanks.

I was under the impression they were worth about $2 each. I've been breeding them like no tommorow. Iporangensis is a dwarf version of brasiliensis. My male is about 4 inches long, and the females maybe 2.5-3. I've also posted a single video on youtube if you search for 'geophagus iporangensis'

There are2 vids. Which one is yours?

I haven't seen a key published yet, but that's not surprising since their genus hasn't been redefined yet. I imagine unfortunately we won't see a guide on the differant, new species until there.

Do they look anything like my geos? I got them at a swap meet as "rio salito" or "rio salto" geophagus. The guy who I got them from said they were a undescribed species. They IDed on here as brasiliensis but they are a lot smaller.
