Went fishing yesterday and on my first cast caught this (what I think is a) beast. Couldn't figure out what it was at first but after a little bit of research thought it might be a golden shiner. Has anyone seen any this size before or even kept them? I think they'd be awesome to have. Very powerful fish

Yup that's a golden shiner. We catch big ones like that up in our Marina in Lake Erie. My personal best was 11".

Why is the poor guy laying on the bank?

because he just caught it, was using 1 hand for size and the other to take the photo ;)

Case solved, My dear Watson.

Catch that in the bay?

I am familiar with the area but I don't know were that is. I just thought it would be odd if that was in the bay. A lake makes sense.

Yup, golden shiners get big up to 12", tho some golden shiner with Rudd influence can get bigger than that. We have golden shiners with koi and goldfish right now in the pond.
