When I think about one of my bichirs, I don't have the instinct to give it a name. I also think it's normal to call them "it" instead of "he" or "she". I tried thinking of a name for the plumper one because it looked kinda cute that way, but never finalized it. The normal looking one, I never tried of thinking of a name for it. Do you think I am abnormal for being this way?

I have a Koliba lap that I cant figure out a name for yet the five other polys all have names... Some polys just name themselves with their behavior.

My endli is named Croc, she is mean and bites the other polys.
Ansorgii is Nom Nom, like cookie monster when he eats
Nigerian lap is Speck because it has black specks
Faranah lap is Hulk because its really green colored
Weeksii is Nessie like the Loch Ness monster (I figure it too is cute)

And I still cant figure out what to name the Koliba lap. lol

I have a hard time naming most fish for some reason. I've named a few like my angler was Scuba Steve. My one Teug is Lucifer that just came out one day almost on accident or he told me. I usually refer to all my fish as "he" not "it" or "she" except for my albino sen that was "she", I was wrong it's a "he".
We need someone like magpie magpie or clm08k clm08k to reply.

I've named most of the goldfish I've had, and all of my favorite catfish, but nothing else.

I have a hard time calling anything that is a creature that I own an “it” even if I don’t know the sex. As for fish, I tend to name the ones that have personality.

But I’ve always owned dogs and those have names. So it seems natural to name fish that have personality to me.

I also call my motorcycle a “she” and she has a name. :)

A lot of people here don’t name their fish, so I don’t think that’s abnormal. I just tend to name my main fish. That’s just me. :)

Funny thing is I have probably well over 100+ cichlids but I never name my fish, except for my Polys. I always refer to my cichlids as "he" but with polys they just seem like they need a name. Dunno if it's because of their cute face or the fact that they have such personalities or what reason it is.

I currently have four polys and they are named Blue, Charlie, Delta & Echo. A take off of the military use of phonetic alphabet as well as the names used for the four raptors in Jurassic World so it seemed fitting.
