Generally serrasalmus are going to be more solitary. Spilo are known for doing well in groups, and Macs aren’t very different, but I wouldn’t risk it.
Yes I kept 7 macs in a planted 300 gallon for 6 months. First 4 months no issues other than minor fin nips. Month 5 they killed one. Month 6 killed another one and already started going after another one. They don't shoal together. Very territorial. They each had their own spot in the tank. Basically tolerating each other. Feedings were fun tho
