Guys 2 weeks back i moved two severums from main tank to breeding tank they always at the same place in main tank that’s why i moved them i thought big one is male and small one is female today i saw those fishes their vent looks like little bit big so i added one piece of tile then male is aggressively cleaning that tile after some time female is trying to lay eggs on gum of glass corner and male is also trying to lay something on piece of tile I don’t understand both vents are so big after some time female lay eggs still male is trying to lay something on tile so 15 mins later i think he is trying to release sperm on female eggs

My actual concern :- are they both female or normal pair?
I attached pics please check and confirm
In pics small one who lay eggs

Clearer shots of the face would help, but it looks like a male and female to me. Getting a look at the vent from underneath the fish would help as well.

I’m admittedly not great at venting, but I would say you have a male and a female.

thanks for your reply

Most of eggs colour is yellow and orange mix right now but some of the eggs are little bit white on sides.

ryansmith83 ryansmith83 bro you have so much experience on severums please check my query once you are available

The protruding vents on the 2 fish in post #1 both look distinctly female to me. I am more experienced venting african cichlids, but in the BO/SO series both also look to be female to me 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the info
6 hours back both are fanning at eggs and i woke up just now there is no eggs in the aquarium except 20eggs i think female small one(who laid eggs) ate the eggs

A general rule of thumb when venting is 2 small holes oo = male, a small 1st & bigger 2nd oO is female. On some species the male vent is more triangulated, and the girls looks like a donut. Using these rudimentary rules yours are both girls.

Update. Above severum pair ate all eggs even healthy eggs also and I’m not sure about big one is male or female so i moved them to the main tank.

In my main tank i have one green severum pair they are already spawned once in main tank 2 months ago but my parrots ate their eggs now i moved them from main tank to breeding tank. Let’s see how it goes

New pair pics attached
