Good floating plants to go with Bichirs?

I'm trying to add more plants to help cut down nitrate generation a bit more, but my red root floaters are not doing too hot with my bichirs. Every time they breach the surface to get air, a ton of the floaters get tossed around and flipped over. Some stay flipped over, and eventually start melting if I don't see them and flip them back.

Any suggestions for larger, more robust floaters that won't get tossed around by 12 inch bichirs breaching the surface?

Mine did well with duckweed. I have a love hate relationship with it.
