I’ve not kept that type but I do have three fire eels. I don’t believe the half banded spiny eels get larger than 12-15”, if I remember right. At 4”, the best foods for them are probably frozen bloodworms and cut up red wigglers. If you can find some small enough red wigglers, then there is no reason to cut them up. Try those foods out first and report back on how it goes getting them to eat. It may take a week or two, so don’t be discouraged if they don’t eat right away.

I have frozen blood worms also some small earth worms I hav heard they are nocternal feeders so may not see them eat

I know they are said to be nocturnal but by the behaviour of mine I find that hard to believe. I have 2 groups. A group of 3 probably full grown at 7-8 inches and a group of 5 recently acquired tinies at maybe 3". Lights go on and the big ones are front and center begging for food. They rarely hide during the day. The tinies creep out hopefully. The 3 big ones eat live or frozen without issue. The little ones readily take live bloodworm, blackworms and white mosquito larvae and are now although not with gusto eating frozen bloodworm and white mosquito larvae. I began by feeding the live blackworms with tongs which they quickly associated with food. Then switched the blackworms for defrost bloodworms waving them about so they appeared live. The little ones couldn't resist. How are yours doing?

As I sit here the surviving one is swimming around I have had it about a month now I did put some frozen tubefix in I think it ate some but the tetras are so greedy the food is consumed very quickly so tend to put food when lights out I am trying to culture some black worms but it seems to be a very slow process
