Help! My green terror is super picky. He would only eat frozen food and wouldn't take hikari and nls pellet. Currently starved 3 days to get him on pellet. Even stuffing pellet in prawn didn't work. He just watches my other jewel cichlid attacked the pellet but he doesn't touches it. Anyone have cases like this before? He is still active and aggressive , not unhealthy

If his health is good. Just keep trying and eventually he should start to get the idea.
You could try a garlic supplement sometimes it will stimulate the appetite.

Hi!

I am going through this EXACT issue right now. I was thinking of making a new post of my own, but maybe my experience will help with your guy too.

I bought 2 GTs maybe 4-5 months ago. Got both of them eating NLS large fish Thera-A pellets within a few days. Great. 1 Terror is mine, 1 is my boyfriends. First week or so of quarantine they split a divided 40 breeder; I setup another 40 breeder and moved my GT over to his own tank. They are both solo fish, tanks filtered with Aquaclears, cycled, pots to hide in.

As soon as I move my GT, he turns down NLS consistently. Spits it, doesn't give it a second thought. I tried soaking in bloodworm juice, stuffing into krill or tilapia, different pellet sizes, Seachem Entice, turns it all down, total refusal. I fasted him for nearly 2 weeks - he still consistently rejected NLS. I eventually fed him a gauntlet of crappy cichlid tetra sticks, tilapia, krill, and bloodworms. Eventually he began rejecting these foods also. Meanwhile, the other GT continues to eat NLS and has outpaced mine in size and condition. Mine gets that slightly hollow belly look that I see in your photos also.

I treated with Levamisole and Metronidazole (heavy doses) for about 10-12 days. I am still not sure if he was ill, potentially with an intestinal protozoan or other parasite. I am not even sure if my treatment was effective!

I bought a bag of Hikari sinking carnivore pellets, a food I've had great acceptance of in the past. I started soaking these in a few drops of water+Vita-chem (not a ton of water, just enough to saturate pellets). He started eating these post-treatment. I literally spoon-feed the pellets one by one, and I don't feed them too fast. He eats one, I walk away for a minute, I come back, I feed another. Repeat until I see the slightest drop-off in appetite. I recently started soaking a few NLS pellets along with the Hikari+Vitachem. He eats these now too! I think we are maybe on the road to recovery.

Mine is slightly different. He eats frozen food but never touches pellet. I tried to use garlic juice(diy), still rejects it.

I think your gt is not like the op gt. Yours sounds ill. My guess is that he or she was stressed from the move and had an already existing parasite. But was able to remain healthy. Stress hits and bam he refuses foods, the parasite is able to start getting a foot and in developing.

I think an food soaked Epson salt treatment https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/treating-hexamita-aka-spironucleus.339362/

Would be a great idea. See what happens from there.

I think your fish is just picky. What's the longest you have withheld food for? Maybe starve him out for a while like 3-4 weeks might do the trick. Each day offer 1-2 pellets and remove debris if untouched. Give it 30 min or so to sit in the bottom or top.

I find my gt loves to each sinking stuff opposed to floating foods.

First time I try a food, any food, my gt crushes it. Even loves shelled peas on the first go. The only time I saw a decrease in appetite was after a tank rescape where he was a little pissed with me.

Hope my advice helps

Ah, yep - I actually did give that a try. I slathered pieces of tilapia (his favorite) in espom salt and fed it. He seemed not to mind the taste and I think he got a decent bit of epsom salt in him, but it didn't cause any significant change. I also raised tank temp to about 80. Glad to hear you and I had some really similar ideas!

He's currently eating pellets (albeit soaked and slow-fed) 3x daily now, so I'm less worried. Sorry to derails OP's thread slightly, and thanks for the suggestions!
