Hi guys,

I have a green terror that seems to have something going on with his eye and not sure if its fungal or bacterial. Anybody have any ideas and how to treat?

thanks

Picture quality is not bad. From the look of the eye, I would say bacterial. I see nothing that suggests fungus. On the other hand, there is also some HITH going on. Hopefully more knowledgeable people will advise. Good luck.

Thanks, what is "HITH"?

Looks like a cloudy cornea; could just be that it scraped itself

Clean water clears most of these up

I agree about the HITH, and that the eye infection is probably bacterial, and basically related to the cause of the HITH.
What is your water change routine, frequency and how much do you change in @ gallons with each water change?
Related to that, what is the normal tanks nitrate concentration before a water change?
What kind of filtration, and how often are the filters cleaned
What is the tank size in gallons?

HITH and related bacterial infections are usually due to a lack of sufficient water changes, and filter cleanings.

Hi Duanes,

I have a 55G with 2 aquaclear 70's and 2 algea scrubbers. My nitrate stays under 50. I have not done a water change in a while because the nitrates are low.

so zero amonia, zero nitrite, nitrate >50. the algea scrubbers remove all the amonia nitrate and keep nitrate very low. I keep Gh stable with equalibrium

To me, a nitrate level even close to 50ppm would be my primary suspect for causing HITH.
These fish come from waters where nitrate seldom exceeds 5 ppm.
On that size tank, I'd be doing 50% water changes every other day until nitrate soup was significantly reduced, then enough water changes in a regular schedule to keep it that way.
