Gulper catfish

Kinsley decided I want a gulper catfish.. or 2 but iv seen a couple threads on here a out them not eating when you first get them, the last thing I want to do is have a $90 fish die, I saw a vid on youtube of a guy force feeding his.. is this recommended if it won't eat? Also feeding them, could I literally go to a grocery store and buy like a bag of shrimp for hI'm and just keep him the same stuff we eat?

Yes, it's normal for them to take a while to adjust to eating dead food, but it's not a problem really. They are designed to eat infrequent large meals, so they can go for a very long time without eating. I have 2 and neither of them ate at first. One of them took 16 days to eat, and the other took a full 21 days before he ate anything. When they did start eating all they would eat was pieces of market shrimp from the grocery store. Now they eat tilapia and shrimp very easily.

If worse comes to worst and they still won't eat after a month, you can give in and feed them live goldfish or other feeders, but that really shouldn't be necessary and should be avoided if possible. And under no circumstances should you force feed them. That has a very very very high chance of causing other damage.

I recently ordered a couple gulpers from Discus Origins, one of the MFK vendors. They were already off live and ate the same day they arrived. I have been feeding them shrimp stuffed with pellets. Send them a message and see if they still have some.

Unfortunately I have to redo my tank to better suit them, add sand and driftwood and maybe a pot or 2. But I'll prob check them out aquascape was kinda high on price. WetSpot had 1 a couple weeks ago for a decent price and it's gone and been regretting it ever since

Wow ! Gulper catfish cost $90. I didn't think they cost that much.

I would think they would go after bloodworms... but again, I've never had one.

They might eat the whole cube! But I doubt a little worm would entice them, iv seen a new vids of ppl keeping them with like neons and stuff since they don't even bother going after small foods

And yea $90 is highest iv seen l, wetspot had them for 70 +40 shipping and discus origin I just checked out has them for $65
