So i have purchased a fw moray eel from the lfs, did my research they live in freshwater but do better and thrive in brackish/marine. So I have added salt, made my tank into brackish with other community fish. lfs said they will be fine in my 125g when i add the salt. I did that yesterday everything went well, the eel is popping his head out but still not feeding yet. My other fishies on the other hand have been eating like no other. Also, I put the temp up for my eel as well.

Well, first you added aquarium salt to your water doesn't meant it become a "brackish" water setup and aquarium salt is not the type of salt to setup a brackish/marine tank. Let's me guess you followed the instruction adding 1 or 2 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons right? then you tank is not a brackish and the amount of salt that you put in barely make anything or enough to kill other fishes (most of us here using this type of salt to kill ich), if you setup your water to to meet brackish water condition then all other fish WILL DIE minus the Eel. You would need some tool and calculation to get the amount of salt that brackish water requirement.
Edit:
However, adding salt does make your eels feel better, getting it to eat is another story. It's all depend on how your eel adjust to new tank fast or slow.

Nice of you to try but it's a waste of time with this guy. I have given him extensive information in the other threads he's trolling and he refuses to believe that the eel cannot live with his freshwater fish, or that the freshwater fish can't live in brackish water.

He has been told multiple times that the best course of action would be to take the eel back to the store but refuses to do so and continues to ask for advice on how to make it work.

Well, I'm not trying to convincing him to return the eel, we have control over his decision nor his action. However, if he asking question then I'll try to do my best to answer it, there will be other folks will read these threads and learn from it then they folks will have a change to make right decision before buying any fishes or have a plan to setup a right environment for their future wet pets. :)

THANK YOU!!!

If you are into eels, you could check out peacock or zig zag eels. They are spiny eels, not morays, but great fish. Tire track eels and fire eels get too big for a 125.

I just bought one of this babies, I really didn't know anything about this fellas, but the girl i bought her from (I feel like she is a baby girl), told me she was freshwater, but then I made my research and it seems she's not!! I don't know what to do, I'm quite new to these beautiful creatures, I don't wanna lose her, I'm willing to buy a new tank just for her but I don't know what she needs, she has been living with an Oscar, a Green terror and a Firemouth, they all get along, but Khaleesi (my eel) is acting weird today, she has been laying with her belly up, she has never done this before!!, she still swims every now and then and acts kinda normal (for her), but the laying upside down is quite disturbing.

She usually is very friendly, she actually seeks my hand when feeding them and she likes being held.

Can anyone please explain me what is going on and what can I do to make her happy again??!

THANKS

These are often sold as "freshwater" morays, because I believe they are born in and captured in fresh water. However, they actually require brackish water as they get older, and can be kept in a full marine environment when adults, but it's not required to go that high in salinity. If you want to keep it in its own tank, I would think a 120 or 125 would suffice. What you will want to do is setup the separate tank as full freshwater, and then gradually increase the salinity with your water changes over the next few months until you reach the point where you want to be. I would recommend getting to at least 1.015sg for these guys, but you can go to a full marine salinity of 1.023-1.025 if you want to. Going to full marine will allow you to add saltwater fish, and use all of the marine gadgets, such as protein skimmers.

Hopefully some others can get you some more in depth information, but I think you can use the above for a good start.
