Hi! Im new to posting on the forum but Ive read a lot of threads on here, and Ive been on several other forums, so hopefully I know how this works :p

I have a 75 gallon tank holding a single male Carpintis. He is about 6" long, and very vibrant and healthy. I have over 1000 GPH of filtration plus heaters and I do 50% WC bi-weekly. Its overkill for the tank but its good to stay on schedule.

So in short: i would like other fish to keep with him, if possible. Im not against a wet-pet but I do like the gracefullness (or glass-banging-ness) i find in a small group if Cichlids, once theyve established a pecking order.

This particular fish has lived with others begore, but he has also killed... He is usually ok with any fish once they get settled in.

So far all ive liked has been an Albino Oscar at the LFS. But i know they are very messy, from previous experience :) Do you think its possible for the aggression levels to match up decently? Or do you have any other suggestions? Looking more for Cichlid tankmates, not really dithers.

Yeah but if I get off my schedule i will have issues... My other 4 smaller tanks only get a 30-60% weekly. But this one has bigger and messier fish, so i do more WC... Im used to having an Oscar in it, or a group of a few juvies...

Anyways, an suggestions ?

My Texas lives with Red Devils, flowerhorns, blood parrots and they're fine all of them. Sizes range from 2 inches from 14 inches in my fish. I do have a 200 gallon though

From my own experience in Texas keeping I would have to say an Oscar will get torn apart if they actually fight. My 6 incher has amazingly visible red teeth, and has used em on several tank mates multiple times. Red devil, midas, any of the amphilophus genus might do well. All depends on individuals. Best of luck, it may be a lot of trial and error... and beat up fishies.

Yeah the fact that i dont have a 200 is what concerns me :p

There is a very nice Midas (looks more like Midas than RD but who knows) at my LFS that i could try. Its about 9" and its in a 75 with about 10 other fish. So maybe it has a decent "community" attitude.

Yeah. I brought home a $40 fish that was 4.5" long a week ago. They seemed fine the first day. Morning after, the new fish was descaled and dead. Its only the second fish that been killed by my Tex, which isnt bad considering he has lived peacefully with about 15 different fish. He is always in charge too. Maybe he didnt like a possible challenger...

I think i will try some type of Amph. If it doesnt work out i can house the Tex somewhere else until a solition is made. The LFS has a nice Midas (probably a Midevil but... Well...) that i could try. Its living with others so it could possibly work...

Have you kept any amphs? They're usually AS S H O L ES... just my experience. My 4 inch midevil attacks the 10 inch Oscar in his tank without fear of retaliation. Just takes bites out of him whenever it suits him :(

Yeah. A 8" RD almost killed my 7" Oscar i used to have. I took the RD back the next day... I had to move it to a 20 gallon within an hour of getting it.

That particular RD is still at the LFS. He lives in his own 29, which shouldve been enough to tell me he is really aggressive... Im hoping that the Midas in the 75 is a bit more mellow.

Yeah, Amphs can be pretty devilish.
