Anyone keeping this fish?

If so:
1. Tank size?
2. Temperature?
3. Food?
4. Tankmates?
5. Group size?
6. Pics?

Thanks in advance!

Is that the Hampala Barb? I have 2 real slow growers. Had mine for few years only grown from 4" to 7-8". Can be kept with other type of big barbs like Tinfoils Lemons or Masheers. Mine eat pellets as staple diet but will eat really anything feeders shrimp worms. Since they grow so slow you could be keep a couple in a 50g for a long time. Mine are in a 300g but with many other big fish.

Yep I mean Hampala Macrolepidota. Thanks for the info bro. Do you happen to have another species since AFAIK H. Macrolepidota apparently grows really fast?

In a fact sheet from a german importer I read that they grow fast - I'll rather trust your first hand info though!:)
Do you think one can be kept as a single specimen or are groups needed?

Hmm, I think a group would look most impressive, but I'm a bit concerned about Bioload... They are cyprinids after all :)

I've had macrolepidota and also dispar. They do well by themselves or in good size groups. If you get two they may torment each other until you lose one. They grow steady at maybe 1/2"-1" a month or so. The longest I've kept one was a dispar for maybe 6 months and he made it to around 8 or 9". IMO not really a showpiece fish but they add interest and movement. Not real picky eaters.

Thanks KNH. I think they only start getting showpiece potential at largw sizes, like over a foot. I'm really considering getting one + a few polys when I get my tank upgrade.(Probably a 150) Do you guys think that would suffice?
