This is my first canister filter. A friend traded me my small fish tank for it, they are downsizing and I'm upgrading. My question is not the filter itself, but they had it in their garage for about 3-4 months. I replaced all the guts in it, however the hoses are gunked up, their fish tank was spotless when they had it and all fish were healthy. My question is would it be OK to start running it in a bucket system with fish tank water for a day or so before using it in my tank? Or should I go to Lowes and buy brand new hose for it? Like I stated, I replaced everything else inside it just jot the hose for it

Depends on the hose; sometimes they get hard and dry, and are literally waiting to split and throw water all over your house, otherwise it should be fine.

It's Marineland brand, I've also soaked the hose in distilled vinegar and hot water and rinsed them well. The hose itself seems decent. They also only had the system like 5-6 months before removing it. So it's around a year old
