I was wondering if any of you have used any Harbor Freight water pumps? They have small pumps, pond pumps, up to larger sump pumps.

I have used several different pumps from Harbor Freight, some with just OK results and some with very good results.

I have been using a 3700gph sump pump for moving large amounts of water from point A to point B with great results. I have used the pump allot and it has been running strong and moves ALLOT of water. Although it is a little loud, not bad but nothing I would want running in my sump under my tank 24/7.

I am not a big fan of the smaller "power head" type pumps they sell. They are cheap and work OK but are not that reliable and I would say are OK for a budget project but not great for reliable long term use.

The main thing I want to discus is....
I am using a 2000gph sump pump on my 200g tilapia tank. I am pretty impressed so far. I have measured the flow on my setup and it flows about 1780gph installed on my tank, running my system. It is a 1/2HP pump and it says it is 400watt, but then says max amps is 2.5 which does not add up. I am betting it is more on the 400watt end, which would be about 3.3 amps. Not exactly super efficient but not horrible either. I plan to test the current draw just to see what it actually draws.

The pump is actually really quiet, which I was not expecting. I am wondering how long it will last? I have a backup pump just in case. The pump cost $42 with a 2 year no fault replacement warranty. Can't really beat the price if it lives 2 years.

Here is the pump.

Anyone else using a pump like this on there tanks?
