Hi MFK, I am Andy from NJ. I have been lurking on the forums for a while but never posted before. So today I was feeding my tank when I noticed that my Hujeta/Rocket Gar was missing. I looked around the tank and eventually found him upside down in a plant. His tail and part of his body's flesh were bitten off. This is most likely the work of my silver arowana. They had no previous issues besides during feeding when they would go for the same pellet. Anyways I immediately removed him from the tank and is now sitting in a 10 gallon quarantine. I haven't done anything yet except raise the temperature to 86F (his normal temp is 82F) and put in an additional airstone.

He has been breathing heavily and isn't able to correctly orient himself (floating upside down). He also isn't really able to swim.

I am looking for the next step to take to maximize the possibility of survival for my gar. I currently have Methylene Blue and Aquarium Salt on hand. I can go to the LFS tomorrow and pick up whatever is needed.

Also, I would like to know what the chances of him fully recovering are.

I have attached 4 photos showing what he looks like at the moment.

Please let me know if you need more info.

Thank You So Much,
Andy

Sorry to say but fish won't recover from the wounds, and tail is not going grow back.
