I have a 3 to 4 Year old 404 that had leaked and I took out of service. I just decided to get it back in service. I replaced th o ring and plugged it in still a small leak, I unplugged it to pull the motor off ,and it turned into a gusher! The lid is on the right direction, I am stumped. Sure am glad I decided to test it in the garrage.
I have had 6 of these things running at one time 3 Years ago and never a problem I am a Die-Hard fluval fan, and I am stumped! Any body have a thought?
Thanks!

My picture taking skills need some practice. Sorry.
Mypimbwe F1 Front Fry.

seeing that its a canister filter.. it would be the seals thats causing the problem... I'm not too familiar with Fluval 404....

Did u drop it in anyway? where exactly is the leak coming from? if its the cover that holds the canister together.. then.. i would say.. the bracing or clips are loose... but i would be great if u have a picture of the ACTUAL leak.. where the water is coming out of...

Cobra it could be but I cant find it. The bottom part of the canister is from a brand new 405. I think it is going to be an ash tray, not worth a flooded living room. My wife is already Madabout the "ugly" fronts, In her words, She dont understand.
Women Who knows? :screwy:
Thanks for the help!

Did you say the canister part is newer than the motor? If so, it's probably not lining up like it was meant to and leaking at the seal, since fluval was famous for redesigning the 304s and 404s as they sold them.

I tried putting an older 404 motor on a newer 404 canister and it leaked like a sieve. It's right at the handles where it didn't fit perfectly.

Try again

ya. i def see it now.. its the entire cover lid... u see that line between the canister and cover...

Either the lid is bad.. or something is pushing the cover up... i would test out the filter with minimal media..(filter pads.. etc) and see if it continues to leak.. then slowly add the other stuff back in... like testing to see if the leak is caused by the cover not being TIGHT enough....

theres your answer right there.. maybe its a different model and the fit is just not the same anymore.... or it could be the cover is getting too old... and it doesnt create a tight enough seal.... either way.. it looks like theres no leak except for the canister's cover...

Best of luck.. i hope u can fix it... I too have an old EHEIM 2213 my uncle gave some 10 years back... i finally got around to finding parts for it.. and am in the process of fixing it..... hate to see things go to waste when only small things are broken..
