Help on ID for my Metynnis SDs

Hi Guys,

I got a school of 15 silver dollars. The LFS just labelled them as "silver dollars". They all looked the same, not much colour as I believe the poor little guys were obviously stressed being kept in smaller tanks. When I bought them home they were immediately more comfortable, some of them started to colour up really nicely, others stayed plain.

My question is if these SDs are different species, or maybe just the males are colouring up? Right from the first day they started partnering up and shaking/vibrating next to each other, swimming really close to each other. I haven't seen SDs this colourful before - from some googling I found the name "Metynnis Altidorsalis". But there is not much info. on these guys online.

They started doing this about 30 min after I added them into the tank, and haven't stopped since. That male has claimed that area between the rocks. Partners up with the different females there. The rest of the SDs all stick to the other half of the tank. I love watching their behavior.

Do you think they could all be the same species? Just the male and female differences? or do I have a mix of species? I wouldn't really like the different species cross breeding

Sorry for the late reply started watching Nat Geo. The Silver Dollar's in your aquarium look like the same species imo. I never read or heard of Silver Dollar's cross breeding.

There's the black cherry SD. But I'm not sure if that's done by the fish or men.
