Alive... I got home from work at 5am and he was face down near the sponge... I thought for sure he was dead but I left him... I woke up at 11 and checked on him and he was swimming around but it didn't take him long to find his hiding place so he doesn't go tail up... About to gravel vac real good with a large water change then I'll feed

Just looking at the photo its hard to tell, since the poop itself looks quite big for such a small puffer...

My question regarding his poop would be;

1. Was it stringy looking when it was finally all out?

2. Did it look like a loose strand of pearls? Something a but like this 。---。----。----。

3. Did it look like a small lump / like an elongated pellet???

After I saw him like that I went to put up my water change stuff and came back and he had already pooped... But I have seen the apisto poop and it's just a long pellet that stays together if that helps any... I tried feeding today and he attacked the bloodworms cube but after he got 1 it took him a while to eat it (unusual) and while I was gravel vacing the snail shells kinda get sucked up and he attacks them so hopefully I'll get my pond snails I ordered in and he'll eat those.

if he does come around why not setup small shrimp tank (maybe cherries) that way when you leave you could place some gut loaded shrimp in and the puffer can pick them off at will. this setup wouldn't really require a lot of work and would alleviate the gap in his feeding schedule. some species of shrimp are pretty attractive and reproduce rapidly.

A cherry red shrimp setup would work, but you would need to start off with a fairly lrge colony to keep a puffer fed, even if only sparingly...

If he attacks snails, when you do get them, maybe feed him using a pair of tweezers or something so you can make sure hes eating...

I would like to set up a cherry shrimp tank but I don't think my mom would like me getting another tank... I think I'll just start buying pond snails on eBay they seem fairly cheap... And try to keep earthworms for him and my bichirs

Maybe setup a small 2-5G tank or something with just some moss and a air filter, then throw the pond snails in there... you should be able to get a good colony going in no time as long as they are fed and you keep the water clean enough, probably easier than shrimp and a lot lower maintenance and running costs to keep them happy ;)
