I have a baby Electric Blue JD that I have had now for a several weeks. He lives with another baby male EBDJ, dinosaurs bichir, threadfin, 2 clown loaches and a green terror in a 75 gal. They are all babies and have been together, since tank set up on Jan 18th. All of the fish are doing fantastic they have several hiding spots, caves and they eat frozen and pellet food. I have had no aggression problem, no fin nipping, nor water problems, no ich, no fin rot. My issue is that a week ago I woke up to find one of my babies JD's tail is completely to the nub, and it happened over night. It looks like you took a pair a scissors and cut a clean line off his tail. He has been eating, swimming, no color changes, he wont back down the other fish, protect his home and has found a non stressful spot to swim in his tree trunk.Although today I have a huge concern because he has just been swimming at the top of the tank which is out of his character. I have never dealt with this before so I am not sure if I should take him out and put him in the hospital tank till his tail fin grows out. My concern he will grow apart from the other fish and might become aggressive when I put him back with his friends or they might become aggressive with him. The only advice that I have been following is checking my water every day and its has been on spot and have done (2) 25% water changes one on the day it happened a week ago and yesterday was the second change.

Ime fish staying at the top corner of a tank usually means they are being harassed by something in the tank. If you have the option of putting him in a hospital tank you should do that. Clean water is the best medication for damaged fins.
