whats the min size tank for a breeding pair ? can it work in a 30 gal or a 40 breeder . suggestion please thanks in advance

I had what I think (not positive, but reasonable chance) was a lone female and a lone male, each in their own seperate aquariums, because they killed or maimed any other cichlid put with them. One day a few months ago, I decided to put the larger one (the male) with the female. They had a battle, which seems like normal prespawning behavior. But it was more serious than I thought it was. The male looked really wore out, so I put him back in his own aquarium. My beautiful male died a few days later, and I've felt sick about it ever since. The female is much less colorful.

Maybe you would have better luck than me, maybe not. I really want to try breeding them again, but I got to give it some time before I put myself through that trauma again. Definetly not a fish for the feint of heart, but still very cool.

I have a fat male about 6''. At the Shop i got him from, he killed every frempongi in the tank. but now, he is a nice fish. comes along fine with all his tankmates!

Well, it seems like they are tougher to breed than smaller Hemichromis jewel cichlids. The jewels are sometimes willing to be willing to breed at a very young age, where as frempongis would tend to be looking to kill other fish, and each other. But you may get lucky and have a different experience.
