I cant find much on this Severum sp. and, to tell you the truth, do not know much about Severum's in general.
But, this variety is so amazing I am considering getting some.

What would be its disposition? A fish that can be in a community tank with other fish?
In the tank it would go into I have geophagus sp ( sveni and neambi), biotodoma cupido and wavirini, larger tetras ( 2.5 inch or larger), and corydoras ( brochis splendens and c. eques).

Tank is 180 gallons, temperature 78-79 degrees. PH 7.4/kh 3/ gh 5.
Is it gregarious in the aspect that it needs to be in a group or would 1 or 2 ( 2 fish is what I was considering) be fine?

Thanks.. any input appreciated.

I currently have two Red Tigers with a group of Geos and Wild discus. The serverums do not bother the geos or discus what so ever. Been together for over 3 months now.

Oh beautiful tank! Okay. Would you think that the tetras wouldn't be considered food as well? My geophagus pay them no mind.
Would two be fine? Or would they not do so well at such a small number?

Sorry, I didn't register the part where you said you had two and they were fine.

This fish is formally described now as Heros severus. The current fish being imported are not from Curare and shouldn’t be called that. The ones currently being imported into the hobby are from somewhere near San Felipe, Colombia on the Rio Negro.

This is the largest growing and most aggressive of the Heros species I’ve kept and bred, similar to the mouthbrooding H. liberifer. Adults will reach 11”+ and are pushy with each other and sometimes other fish. They will definitely eat small fish including tetras.

This is perhaps one of the only blackwater restricted species of Heros and while I have found mine highly adaptable they seem to do best in soft, warm water. I keep my temperature around 82F and right now my pH is 4 with a hardness near 0. I have also kept them in hard water but I find their colors look better when kept in the softer water.

Dragon Hunter Dragon Hunter the Heros in your picture are not severus (“red tigers”) or at least not the one on the right. That is H. sp. Inirida. The other is difficult to see because it’s facing the camera.

Thanks for your input Ryan: this is the listing on Wetspot:
Heros sp. "Red Tiger Severum" "Rio Curare" 5-6" WILD $100.00

I definitely do not want any fish that would threaten my tetras, I have some rare ones that are very expensive.
Thanks for the heads up.

Hi,

That one would also be Heros sp. Inirida. Note the eight bars (sometimes Inirida have 8.5 like severus), the lack of red in the chest and neck, and the fact that the bars are solid rather than having a mottled appearance. Here is a relatively poor-quality picture of my first batch, from Curare:

Thanks for ID again .

ryansmith83 ryansmith83 could I ask please, what size aquarium would you consider for the 'curari severum? I'm setting up a 4ft x 3ft x 30inch aquarium that was going to be for some wild heckel discus. I have the chance to obtain some curari severum and I have to say that I am very tempted but not sure if the tank is big enough. Any help or advice would be great.
