For those of you who have used Hikari's "First Bites" to feed their fry, I was curious how long before the fry are big enough to eat these? Or are they small enough for most fry to eat them as soon as they're free swimming? I was going to buy some, but I was undersure if they'd be able to use it.

The food is too big to be fed right after they are free swimming (imo). I usually do crushed flakes until I feel they are big enough to eat the first bites easily.

That's what I have been doing with my Con fry, however I haven't noticed the fry even eating. They've been free-swimming for about 6 days now, and I just recently (within the last 3 hours) taken about 14 fry and put them into their own 20long to raise them alone for abit. I'm worried they won't eat without their parents.

Oh, I just bought those. I'm planning on feeding them to baby cons and bettas, if I ever get them. I also have brine shrimp eggs, but I don't have an air pump, so I don't know if I can hatch them.

As far as cons go, I've never specifically fed the fry. They are very tough fish. I always just fed the adults, and the young were fine.

You dont have an air pump? Buy one now. I think the first bites are far too large to be feeding anabantoid fry, as these fish have extremely small mouths when young.

I guess I should go get an air pump. They need to be plugged into the wall, right? I'd love to get one, I just need my parents to drive me to the lfs. (I can't wait until I can drive....)

Frozen brine shrimp is easy, effective and nutritious. If you're not into hatching your own buy some of this stuff. We've used san fransisco brand of baby brine and our fry tripled in size their first week if not more. Good luck, hope this helps!

i have 4 con fry that i got from ewo and they eat the first bites just fine and they are growing good ive had them for about 2 weeks now or so and they are developeing nicely

Yeah, I just picked up a pack at my LFS. It seems my fry love it just as much as they do the BBS I've been hatching.
