It is my understanding that the fish labelled Honduran red points that come out of Rio monga look like this

While the ones that come out of Rio danli look like this

It is also my understanding that the 'true' Honduran red points are endemic to Rio danli.
So I would conclude that the taller bodied, larger, duller (more convict or siquia like) Rio mongas would be classed as false Honduran red points and are probably some sort of siquia var, while the slimmer, brighter, and smaller Rio danlis would be labelled as true Honduran red points and classed as their own species.
Would this be correct? Just trying to clear up some confusion on my part and whoever comes up to this dilemma in the future. I'm still trying to figure out if I have real or false Honduran red points. Mine look more like the ones coming out of Rio monga, but either way they're beautiful fish and I'm happy with them.

The convict species vary a ton from river to river and stream to stream in CA. Also, the scientific community has proposed different things over the years and some people accept the proposed changes and some don't. The original "Honduran red point" comes from the rio Danli, collected by rusty wessell. The rio monga fish are also called "Honduran red points" as a common name, and haven't been given a different scientific name that I'm aware of. "Amatitlania sp. Rio Monga" would probably also be correct if you had that fish and wanted to be exact.

Honduran red points have been in the hobby for almost 20 years now and there is an aquarium strain which is probably a combination of many different locales and maybe even other amatitlania species. True "Convicts" are Nigrofasciata, siquia, or kanna. If you did not get your fish from a reliable source with a catch locale listed, I would consider your fish "aquarium strain HRPs".

I got mine from TUIC so I have reason to believe they're derived strictly from one locale, but they were listed as CB with no specific locale on them

Danli is the only hrp, the Rio mongo fish is not a hrp and doesn't really look like one...
