How large do Marble "Achara" catfish get in aquariums? I've read they don't get as big in aquariums as they do in the wild. Does anyone have experience with these fish and there sizes? Is a 300 gallon tank large enough for a full grown Marble? Thanks in advance!

They normally get 24-28". But when determining tank size you need to factor in that the tank should be at least 4 times as long and twice as wide as the span of their maxillary barbels which could be up to twice the length if their body, so think of them as 48-56" when determining tank size. I doubt a 300 would be big enough for a full grown adults but you could have one for quite a long time anyway, what are the tank dimensions?

Yeah, I thought they might be too big for a 300. I don't have the tank yet, but dimension will most likely be 6' x 3' or 8' x 2.5' . I would hate to have a fish I cant house full grown, so i'll probably do something different. Any other catfish you know of that stay around two foot full grown? Would I be able to house a Tigrinus or Sailfin Marbled full grown in a 300? Thanks

Agree with Dive. 2'-2.5' TL. Barbel span ~4'. Min tank width, then, 5'. Min length ~10'. Or a round pool/pond of ~10'-12' at least. Sailfin Marbled Pim - same requirements.

A tig may appear more doable but they do like much current and swimming space. I've only come across one 3'-er, all others appear not to exceed 2'. So, a min footprint is again ~5'x10'. IMO.

Typical IME and that of others. I think Leiarus marmoratus grows to 1' faster than even RTC, TSN, etc.

He will. That's why I cited 1' mark. After that, the growth in length will quickly slow down by 2x-4x.
