males get 20'' and females stay around 12'' they don't grow to fast i'd say around average 1''-2'' per month

Easy way to differentiate between the two, cichlids have a single dorsal fin, while snook have two. The Nile perch and the barramundi are both examples of true snook.

Baysnooks rarely reach 20" i have a breeding pair, male 13" and female 8", and 8 young at 3" the young are quite slow growers even with plenty of food.

The original poster never specified what kind of snook he meant.. people just thought p. splendida is what he meant when he could have been refering to another kind of snook..
