How do I cut the vinyl strip on an Aqueon Versa Top glass lid?

I want to what I should use and how I should go about cutting it to make the perfect cutouts for my Aquaclear filters. I don't want to just go at it and mess the whole thing up.

I used serrated kitchen shears, just outlined the slot where the filter would go and marked it with a fine sharpie. Cut along the lines and trimmed off any bits and pieces that were in the way if it didn't fit

I used to use sheet metal snips, but now I use these $20 oscillating power tools http://www.harborfreight.com/power-...ting-multifunction-power-tool-68861-8493.html
Then I clean the edges with a dremel with drum sander attachment. Clean, precise cuts with smooth edges

You must have the hand strength of a gorilla lol

I used a short hacksaw blade in a plastic handle, got it at local home improvement store.

I couldn't do it with regular scissors

I'm sure a dremel would work fine, or tin snips like xraycer suggested. All those things were designed to cut much tougher things than plastic so I'm sure it'll go like butter
