how do i make driftwood i find on the shore sink?

pm please

Good drift wood is usually the roots of trees and most likely from harder wood species. If that's not sinking straight away I hold it under water with bricks. I always soak my drift wood for a month or two before I use it in my aquarium. I have a garbage can I just fill with water and sink the wood in there. This forces the wood to get waterlogged and cleans or sucks out the brown tea coloring that makes the water brown. I change the water once a week mostly to keep the mosquitos under control. When the water eventually drains clear then the wood is ready for the aquarium. Most likely it wont be floating anymore.

I heard to make it sink drill holes in the base or somewhere it wont show. Then put fishing weights securley in there. Idk if it works but thats wht i have been told.

depending on the size you should boil it is possible to kill any parasites or what not that you don't want in your aquarium. boiling it helps sink it as well. The most tried and true way that is the safest IMO is time. Just let it get water logged and it will eventually sink.

Thanks man, im heading down to the ptomac this weekend. thinking i might find some driftwood worth keeping.

I took this piece out of the local river. I powerwashed it to knock off the dirt. I have no freakin patience so I drilled a piece of slate with a hammer drill and used a drywall screw to attach it to the wood. It sunk....like a rock;). I then did a water change every 3 days till the tannins leached out.

I've found that some pieces just won't stay onthe bottom without help. I had to toss out a piece b/c After almost 4 months it still wnted to float. I got mad and just tossed it outside. It wasn't the greatest piece ever so I wasn't sad.

i've tied it up with some decoration stone...it works...
