I want to try feeding peas to my goldfish, because I heard it helps prevent bloat. How exactly do I prepare the peas? Should I take of the shell, rinse them, and/ or cut the up? Thanks.
If they are canned peas, just pinch them so that the middle of the pea is seperated from the skin... and discard the skin.
If they are frozen, which is what I use, put them in a bowl and microwave for 1.5-2 minutes, so they are soft. Cool them down with cold water, and do the pinch technique above
I'm sure skin is fine, but I know lots of people remove it, and it is easier for the GF to eat. If your fish are small, mash the pea (w/out the skin) a little with your finger.
May take a couple of tries, but your goldfish will love them!
Pea's prevent and help aid in constipation and they are used to treat many fish. When I have pea's for dinner, I seperate a generous amount and plop them in the tank for the fish. The 2.5" convict can eat a whole one in a single bite.
