I have 6 american toad tadpoles I caught from a pond. They are eating very well and I change their water everyday.

The main question is how long does it usually take for a american toad tadpole to turn into a toad?

They can wait until the conditions are right to metamorphise. Makes sure the water is a good temp and that they have plenty of land to start exploring. Give them some cover both in and out of the water and it will take a month or two. Is you keep them in a full aquarium, they usually stay tadpoles for about a year then die off.

i agree they wont metamorphosise untill perfect contitions are there

I used to do this all the time as a child in the deep south of USA. Sometimes, it took almost two years for them to fully develop.

I do the same with european toads which are hardly different and have experienced about 3 months at room temp and 4 months outside.

they do not need clean water they can live in little dirty puddles it just takes time you will start to see legs grow first thats when you will kno its starting to change usally a few months i have never heard of it takeing a year or more
