how long should i wait before adding my 2' aro to my newly setup 240g?
i did water changes to all my tanks to help fill the 240.
im guessing i added 80-100 gallons of water change water.
then filled the rest up and added aqua safe.
the bio balls i put in a tupperware outside with a dirty filter running about a week or 2 ago.
they are underwater.
i added about 2 dozen mosquito fish,3" mayan,3"jewel,to the 240.doing good.
so with all that prep how long should i wait?
"i dont do tests"
my aro is going to kill himself in the tank he is in and needs to be moved :irked:
thanks for any info
:)

also,i have a 500gph pump running but in a week or 2 i will have a 1000gph pump
"if this matters"

well you have to start doing test to be really sure, a typical cycle goes from 6-8 weeks. I wouldn't move your Silver to the 240 until he starts eating normally, pick up some nitrite/ammonia/nitrate test kits should be around 15-20 for all 3 at a chain store.

Can you move the already cycled filter from the Aro's current tank into the new bigger tank along with the fish? That should ensure you have sufficient cycled filter capacity to support it in the new tank.

After a few weeks when everything has settled down you can move the filters back again.

It's not a matter of time, it's about the bacteria population in the filters. Even if you left the small fish in there for a year you may still get a 'mini-cycle' when you add the Monster. Moving the filter AND the fish should minimise that.

Cheers

i cant buy testers any time soon. :irked:

so if on top of what i have done,
if i do a 50% waterchange "about 50g" on his tank and dump that into the 240
then move most of the old media with him,
would that work?
usually i setup a tank, let it run,add some junk fish, wait then soon its fine.
but ive never worked at this scale plus the stuff i did to prep it.
thanks for the replies.

Last tank I setup I moved a filter from the old tank onto the new one along with a new filter, let it run over night to settle temp and added fish the next day. Only loss was a silver dollar who freaked and jumped out of the tank. One benefit of having extra filters running.

i also let a filter run on my established 75gallon for three or four days then transfered it over to my new 125gallon. i just transfered the fish today and they seem to be enjoying the extra room already
