Are yours the actual SAEs? Because I have not seen a single true SAE being that way I'm sorry to say. What was your experience with the SAEs so far? Cramped quarters is often the cause for unusual aggression. SAEs are not known for this type of behavior.

I have three in my 29, the biggest of mine is probably just over 4". They are pretty peaceful with everything else, they do tend to chase eachother around the tank every once in a while possibly stressing out you other fish.

The other problem that I found is finding a true SAE soo many that are quite similar and easy to mistake for an SAE.

Are you sure you're not mistaking them for Chinese Algae Eaters (CAE's)?
THEY can be real pricks. ;)

Siamese Algae Eaters are usually quite well recommended. They actually EAT algae, and are for the most part very nice fish.

id stick with otos personally unless ur gonna have any fish that would make a meal out of the oto, but thats probably unlikely for a 29 planted.

problem with teh SAE's i think is that its tough to get a true SAE.

seems there are a couple look alikes and most of them arent big algae eaters. which is what i noticed with my SAE that i got.

stocking ideas: id try to find a nice pair of apistogramma cacatuoides. just got a pair for my 20g long planted and i love them. great colors. id then mix them with some small tetras. my favorites and the rummynose, cardinals, and brass tetras.

I'd get a Bushynose. By far the best algae eater imo. Only need 1 for a 29. I have a 29 planted and started out with 3 Ottos, but found they got fat and lazy after a while, so i put a bushynose in and he cleaned up the tank and keeps it clean.
