I like to save money and also have a strudy stand, so I built my own stand/canopy :)
.......how much $ do you think I saved by making these myself?
I spent about $140 on materials. How much do 125 gallon 6' stands and canopies cost?

Like $200 or so. I spent $300 for a new 125gal stand. Not including the canopy.

And it's not just the money you save, it's being able to look at it and say,"Look at that sexy setup. I made that sexy setup. What a sexy setup. mmmm."

Whoa Gang!! Remember before you start water alone weighs 8 1/2 pounds a gallon. You need to build it to hold the stress of water, rock caves for eels, and anything else your going to put in there. You better be able to build it for those things. Ya they cost allot, but they hold allot too.

thanks for the comments everybody :)

mike1352: being sturdy is very important.......my stand is probably sturdier than most store bought particle board stands.

That's exactly why I build my own! LOL
I've never seen a store bought stand that I would consider "good". I don't really trust sawdust and glue to hold all the weight up :)

^+1

I suck at DIY, so I don't make my own. But I wish that I could because I never trust these crappy store bought ones. I built one myself about 15 years ago. It was nothing to look out, but it was a tank! When I moved, I couldn't take it apart to get it out the door, so I had to use a chainsaw to it. :(

If I was at all skilled at woodworking, I would always make my own stands and canopies. But I'm not, so I have to trust Aqueon. :(

Shelby: That is a nice looking stand, especially the frame. I think that thing could hold the weight of 4 125's without a problem. My 220 is on the stand it came with. It is pine that is stapled together. I would take yours over mine any day. Nice job.

Hale: A chainsaw in the house?! Thats funny.
