Right now I've got a longear, redspot, and a warmouth in my 75. All are healthy and growing. I'm feeding primarily market shrimp (IQF) and nightcrawlers and earthworms. I pick up crickets for them occassionally but I don't have a decent place to keep crickets (too noisy and smelly for in the house). Lately they've also been getting a good bit of junebugs, moths, etc.

Here's my question, when you guys are feeding your sunfish market shrimp (for those who do) about how many do you feed to each fish per feeding and per day. I'm using small 150-200 count shrimp. Right now my sunnies are all about 5-6 inches. How many shrimp would you feed each at this size, and how many when full grown?

I feed mine like 2-3 crused pellets a day (he's only an inch long) shrimp is a good food for them but i would train them to eat pellets as it is cheaper this way and just as healthy if not more. But my bass and crappie get 2 chunked up market shrimp and as many pellets as they can eat a day.

They aren't taking pellets yet... at least not pellets alone. I have started stuffing pellets in shrimp to get them used to them. Right now I'm feeding the fish twice a day, and giving each fish 2 shrimp per feeding and at one of the feedings I also give each fish half of a real large nightcrawler. June bugs etc are between meal treats.

what kind of pellets are you using? I find all my natives take Hikari sinking carnivore pellets with in about 2 days of no food.

I have a warmouth and a redspotted sunfish, and have kept longears in the past.

if you did not feed those fish for 2 days every one of them would eat pellets with in about 5 days. those fish can go about 2 weeks w/o eating and suffer no ill effects. also pellets are better for them as a staple

my fish get frozen blood worms, earth worms, FD shrimp, or live feeders/ small shrimp or crawfish about once a week.

give it time it took my green sunfish 3 weeks before he readily accepted mypellets so dont worrry and just keep at it :D
