I am getting ready to build a wet dry for my ghetto pond and thought about using Hydroton as my bio media. Its cheap, light weight very pores and ph neutral so looks like a winner to me. Any of the experts want chime in?

you probably could but you have to wash it thoroughly first or your water will turn brown. And you might also need to weigh it down because it does float

I used it in my bio filter for my pond it worked Ok but not great. I have switched to Bio balls and it works much better. Hydroton works much better as a hydroponic media if your are growing pot. That's what a lot of the growers use that supply medical marijuana to the local stores.

I would think that the pores on this media would clog very quickly. You would spend a lot of time rinsing the media off. This would also lead to possible inefficiencies in bio filtration.

I had 3 large trickle towers filled with this stuff running for about 3 years. I agree with tigerdat. it´s ok but there are better filter materials
