Anyone more advanced in IDing help me confirm this is an Armatus? I tried to use the ID guides but I can't figure it out 100%. Got him yesterday and he's already eaten a rosy red and a convict.

Other potentially useful information, he swims head almost straight down about half the time, loosely schools with convict babies, is about 3 or 4 inches, and sometimes swipes at the convicts but doesn't attempt to eat ones I didn't give him by tweezer. He cost me 59 bucks at a fish store in Madison WI
Sorry but that is not an armatus but it's lesser cousin Hydrolicus scomberioides or better known as a scomb.
They don't grow as big as armatus and do not become as aggressive.I would discontinue using any tongs or tweezers as long as it eats on it's own.

I use the tweezer to sort of disable its food so they don't hide immediately, I don't hold on till the strike. I'm fine with a Scomb as much as an Armatus, thanks for the ID!
Don't use it at all, just let the scomb do what it naturally does lol.
Scombs have much smaller and differently shaped tailfins than armatus and tats and they move about with their heads tilted down more than the other two as well.
