Hey all, a little help from anyone?
After a trip to the local fish store today I came home with 4 lemon fin barbs, apparently according to the owner they get about 5-6 inch.
Much to my dismay once I'm home I can actually get a phone signal and Google them, obviously I found out it's more like 18-20" for some species!!!
So then naturally I googled further discovering that there's five species in the genus and I've been attempting to do scale counts ect.
Basically I'm leaning towards hybsibarbus vernayi due to the fishbase identification part saying 5.5 scales between lateral line and dorsal.
This may be wishful thinking being that this species has a max size on fishbase of 8" but that would be the best outcome.
Pics to follow, any help?

My fish definitely have yellow fins.

H. vernayi
is very similar to H. wetmorei, but can be told apart by possessing yellow (vs. orange to red in H. wetmorei) pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins. It thus appears likely that yellow-finned fish marketed as H. wetmorei or ‘lemon fin barb’ in the ornamental trade are actually H. vernayi, with both species are available on a regular basis. The two share a broadly similar geographic distribution, so they may even be collected together.

Yeah I had never heard of them myself, very crisp clean looking barbs, some sp. Can hit 20" tho hence the thread!-)
Will be going in my 300 eventually if they make it through the growout tank ok, hopefully they are the smaller sp.
