Well - the Australian Marbled Catshark (Atelomycterus macleayi) grows to a max of 24 inches (61 cm). But it's sometimes confused or misidentifed with other species including the Coral Catshark (Atelomycterus marmoratus), and the White-spotted Bamboo (Chiloscyllium. plagiosum) - both are larger species.

The Coral Catshark grows to 28 inches (71cm) and about 37 inches (94cm).

The Australian Marbled Catshark has the same basic diet and health problems are most other small benthic sharks. They are mainly invertebrate feeders. Still in terms of availability and hardiness - both the Coral Catshark and White-spotted Bamboo are more common and a bit easier to care for.

It's always a good idea to qt any fish before adding it to the main tank.

While certain diseases & external parasites - such as bacterial infections or skin parasites can been seen, still there are internal parasites which may not show any visible signs. So it's actually a good idea to treat any new fish for possible parasite infection during the qt period. Just remember that with sharks - they should only be treated with non-copper based meds.

If it's new from the wild, I'd get it eating well and then run it through formalin or prazi. After that, hit it with a small dose of panacur to 'deworm' it's GI tract.

Most meds are based on water volume. Oral meds are based on weight of the animal. Read up on quarantine process in the 'stickie' at the top of this section for the Elasmobranch Husbandry Guide. It will give you a lot of info and 'how to' tips.
