Yeah, big clown loaches go for a lot of money here. I wasn't looking at any in particular, just going in and noticed they had a few pretty unusual species in stock. I'm kind of done buying loaches for the moment, but still love them and wanted to share with the forum and see if someone really wanted to see something.

If anything probably the splendidas would be it:

Very interesting list... IMO, almost all the posts on this Loach section of MFK are about CLs, YoYos or "Weather Loaches"..It would be interesting to see someone with a different stock.

Also, I got 2 Botia Striata (2") for less than 50 cents for the pair.. (I love being considered a "regular" at one of India largest wholesale (aquarium) fish market..:D . If only I got get all the upgrades sorted out.)

Very nice! I don't have loaches, but the photos I see on MFK tempt me all the time. I wish I had more room! I am looking at a couple of used tanks, but the weather put everything on hold. I am considering "racking" all my 29s and stacking two 55s. If I do that, I will have room for the 125 I want. Then, I would look seriously at a new species...and loaches would be at the top of the list!

Post back photos of anything interesting you see :)

Thanks clockwork...

The splendida's are absolutely stunning fish, I have a group of 14, the downside to them is that they are nasty SOB's. Among themselves they are ok, lots of clicking and chasing but nothing worse than that but they dont like tankmates, I housed a group of 12 pearl danios with mine and they ripped the tails of them within hours, I know of someone that added them to a tank full of barilius and the 5 splendida started ripping scales off the barilius.

I was watching one in a 150 gallon display tank at my LFS the other day... In with a bunch of other smaller botia loaches, plecos, and rainbowfish. He was an absolute devil... Nothing overly aggressive but definitely liked to instigate little fights between all kinds of fish and then swim away. Great personality.

"Skunk Loach" is a rather adept name for them I guess. ^__^;

They really are adorable though. If I wasn't already established with my Histrionica, I'd definitely consider a species tank for them.

Can I request a picture of the Rostrata?

These are not Skunk loaches, the common name for Yasuhikotakia splendida is Jaguar loach, these make skunks look like angels lol

I can put up some rostrata pics in the next day or so for you, I have several different pattern variations
