Hey guys, I'm trying to quickly setup a pool for a larger shark - thinking a 15' diameter Intex pool/pond - but I know there have been some issues with the liner being nasty for fish. But I've also read a few instances where people has no issues at all just popping up a pool and filling it. Cycle it for a few months, and bamn! Big ol' saltwater tank.

I'm going to hook up a pool heater, RK2 skimmer and a sand filter right to inlets/outlets (they're having a sale at Leslie's Pool Supply, with free delivery and install!).

So, thoughts?

They J. I am still on the fence with the Intex thing cause I haven't put fish in mine yet. From what I understand the chemical that people say is on the pool liner shows up as nitrite in the api test once it leaches into the water. The way I was told to fix this both by chris and a koi supplier that uses them all the time was to scrub the hell out of it with powdered tide and bleach, rinse it good fill it and hit it with amquel.

I did talk to Intex on the phone and they laughed when I asked about treated liners. What do want for a couple hundred dollar pool.lol They said that it was a PVC liner and they only thing that could be on it would be something from manufacturing.

So here is my deal... I bought a 10 foot one to set up in Florida in the spring:naughty:, scrubbed it like I was told and filled it with freshwater and let it sit out side for two months. I checked to all the levels in the water every couple of days and nothing. So I am guessing mine is good. I know this doesn't answer everything but its all I got on that so far.

Yeah, Capo used an identical one for his pond, and didn't do anything. But all his fish died of unknown causes...

When I went down to buy some stuff from capo he told me the high nitrite reading was the problem. Chris said his 10' was the same. he scrubbed it down and it was fine. He has his moms koi in there and even had a couple sharks in there with no more problems. Thats why I was only going to use it to collect. they would only be in there for a little while and I am afraid to put sharks I paid lots of money for in there.

I guess the problem might not be with less expensive liners but when I bought or was checking into a liner I was told by the supplier that it's not a matter of if the fish will die but when, he told me it was in the pvc itself not on the surface. I thought he was trying to sell me a more costly liner but a virgin liner was actually more money, so thats my take on it only from what I was told.
