how long did it take to grow out the granulosus, as they are slow growing, i have had one for year and he has grown an inch
I actually have 2 species called granulosus.
Pterodoras granulosus I am sure you are referring to.
I have owned 3.
#1. Bought in 1992 from Aquarium Services at their original store on Dundas St in Mississauga at 7" for $26.95. Died in 2004 at 25".
So it grew 18" over 12 years. Pretty close to your guy.
#2. Bought in 1999 from Pets Plus (John & Fred) in Lockport NY at 5" for $19.95. Still alive and is the bigger of my 2 at 33" measured in Feb 2010 when moving from the 15,000 to the 52,000.
So it grew 28" in 11 years. A lot faster than my first or your guy.
#3. Bought in 2000 from The Tropical Fish Room (Jerry Draper) in Brantford
at 3" for $15.95. Still alive and was measured at around 26" in Feb 2010 when moving from the 15,000 to the 52,000.
So it grew 23" over 10 years. Also faster than #1 or yours.
They are sometimes called the Granulated cat and many years ago the Large Blind Cat due to hard water often causing white callouses over the eyes.
The other fish I own is a Synodontus granulosis which I got from Below Water in Montreal (Oliver Lucanus) in 2010.
