Is this normal?

Hey guys, I know i have been blowing up this thread but I have an urgent question. My endlicheri and senegal have been digging out holes in the sand all over the tank and I was wondering if it's normal. Are they trying to breed, I'm not very experienced regarded bichirs breeding.

My endlicheri would bury it's head into the sand but don't know why.
