truly inspirational.

how do you like the 6500k bulbs compared to the 10000k bulbs?
Good question. I quite like the warmer more natural effect, but sometimes I feel the tanks aren't as crystal clear, particularly the 6x2x2 with 2' width, as they were with 10000K lighting.

Japes, amazing tanks.

Do you buy your almond leaves from eBay? If so, ever have any issues with AQIS stopping them?

Cheers,

Shaun
Hi Shaun,

I buy them from a local store, but I'd be pretty sure that she gets them imported from a guy in Malaysia or Indonesia (you've possibly seen his ads around on local forums). AQIS shouldn't stop them unless they deem them not properly dried or they're poorly packaged.

Update on the tanks, lost all of my T. candidi over the last fortnight. Wondering if my water was slightly too hard for them, since they're found in pH 3.7-4.8 (I think) water. That combined with the stress of a darty and indirectly aggressive D. maculatus male. Expensive mistake, and perhaps wild specimens being introduced into community tanks with non-ideal water conditions is far from a smart idea.

I borrowed a mates DV Camera and took some pretty average video of all my tanks yesterday.

Ugh, not good. However, T. candidi are not found in very acid waters - more with extremely low conductivity, than acid.

Japes, would you consider a 65G (122 x 46 x 46) too small for a group of S. leucostictato live happily?
Quite keen to do a Sth American setup, especially eartheaters if possible.
Definitely, I'd recommend at least a 5x2 footprint for colony of at least 6 (Even in groups of 4 these fish can have issues). I did admittedly have 9/11 in a 4x2 up until dominant males were a little over 6", and most were around 5", but even if I thinned that down to say 4, it would have been a bit tight when they were a little larger.

Ah fair enough, they may have to wait then. Really are a fascinating looking fish :)

How about a group of Geophagus sp. "Tapajos" in that size tank?

Colony of 1M 3F or 2M 2F, so 4 total, should fit snugly.
