I recently picked up a batch of fish and placed them in quarantine. They ended up having camallanus parasites which I am treating the qt for with levamisole. I lost a number of fish to the parasites but the tank seems to have leveled off now with no recent deaths and only one more treatment left.

Of the fish left, I had noticed a Java loach with a swollen anus. I figured it was due to the parasite and that the fish was going to pass. In typical loach fashion it disappeared for a week and I thought it had died. The loach just turned up but it seems to have some erosion around the anus? I'm just wondering if this is a secondary infection from the parasites and if there are any recommended treatments. Other fish in qt include a lavender gourami and otocinclus.

These were the best photos I could get, they're not great but I'm not sure I could do better with this fish. It is still very active.

I’d try some triple sulfa.

Something similar to this happened to my kuhli loaches when my 29g crashed. Despite my best efforts, only but one survived. Good luck, nut sure exactly what the problem is. I agree that you should try triple sulfa. Maybe try some freshwater salt, too? Def looks like some sort of infection

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll grab some triple sulfa today. The last treatment for levamisole starts today, do either of you happen to know if it would be okay to add both meds today? Or should I hold off on the triple sulfa until I do a water change to remove the levamisole in two days?

My main concern is the otocinclus. I've managed to keep 10/12 of the ones I bought alive up to this point and would love for all 10 to make it through quarantine.

Can wait till the levamisole has finished. Then dose the triple sulfa next day.

Just wanted to post an update on the loach. I'm still not positive it will survive, but it has so far. The area seemed to get worse, the flesh was eaten away. The loach was listless for a few days and I was going to euthanize it but it had enough in it to avoid the net still.

The area now shows a little bit of healing and the loach has a great appetite so I'm just going to keep up with the twice a week water changes and sulfaplex (wasn't able to get my hands on triple sulfa) and see how it does.

Not looking so good. Try some methylene blue dips if u can get it.

Could it be some kind of fish louse that took advantage of a secondary infection from the camallanus worms? Those are know to eat away at the flesh of fish and make them listless (see what happened in poorly managed salmon farms).

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think that'll be possible, I wouldn't be able to net the loach for the dips. I agree it's gruesome which is why I was going to euthanize if I could catch it. But it's now showing signs of improvement and the loach is eating and able to pass waste still so I'll let it be for now.

Would I see signs of louse on the other fish? This loach has been in qt for about a month with other fish and I see no other similar symptoms.

If it is a louse, what is the recommended treatment?
