Lol. By dithers, you mean live snacks. That helps to get them in he mood. High protein diet. They are absolutely ferocious when they are about to spawn. Not much can be around when they are ready to go. They even killed my pleco about a week before they started the first spawn. Just be warned if you put anything in the tank, fast or not, it’s most likely going down.
Frequent smaller wc and they think it is rainy season. Be prepared for them to rearrange any of the deco, including substrate around just before and during the spawning process. They will move fry around constantly. Typically they will be good parents, but eat the weak babies. If they are new, expect to lose the first batch or 2. Once they get the hang of it they will take better care of babies.
Keep an eye on the male to make sure he isn’t harassing her too much after the babies are removed. He is usually ready to go right away but she usually isn’t. If he is harassing her desperate them. She needs time to rest more often than not. I however lucked out and my male is a gentleman and waits for her to be ready. (So far).
I would make sure they have lots of places to hide and even a cave or two. They like to lay eggs in caves (terra cotta pot works). This helps with aggression and security.
Good luck
