hi guys,
is it safe to keep panda corydoras with my bichirs? biggest of the bichirs is 8". im planning to make the corydoras a scavenger for the leftover pellets of the bichirs.

i heard that the bichir can die if they eat the cory because of its fins. is it true? thanks :)
and.. can you suggest other scavengers? :)

I would not try it if I were you. Cories are small enough to be swallowed and they can also get lodge in the bichir's throat because of the spines. You might want to try synodontis instead or maybe some large clown loaches.

I have a 20g that I use as a hospital tank sometimes - I put an 7'' endlicheri endlicheri in there for two weeks when she was fighting with another bichir in the big tank. I had two corys in there... a emerald green and a panda. The panda disappeared. I came home one day to find the cory sticking out of the endlis mouth. She couldn't get it down, and had a spine lodged in her lip. I chased her around the tank with a net because I didn't want her to eat it having seen damage already. Ended up having to pin the corys tail to the bottom of the tank til she let it go... Oddly enough the cory is still alive but my endlis lip is scarred to hell. I seriously wouldn't advise that.

nope.
plecos are also a no. scavengers would depend on the bigger type and how big it would eventually

wow, based on your expreiences, i guess its really a bad idea to put a cory with a bichir. thanks for your advice guys, really helpful. thanks

Synodonts may be a good choice but make sure they are big enough. My bichir ate three that were half his size in one night.

i agree with this rec. i wouldn't put corys with your bichers..not worth the risk. and the dorsa fin might choke the bichirs to death....something to think about

I ceep a 10" senegalus (reg) with 24 c. sterbai...
I've got a channa gachua there 2. He's around 6" and very fat!

thats no problem for me... all of the corys are alive
