A predatory non-native species of fish known as the Northern Snakehead, discovered 3 years ago in waters east of the Chesapeake Bay, were caught in large quantities on a small feeder creek of the Potomac River earlier in the week. The numbers were significant enough to convince some biologists that the species is not going any where, and to echo concerns over what the voracious fish will inevitably do to the natural balance of the water's ecosystem.

Wow!!!

I wonder how these things are surviving the cold winters up there? They are tropical fish arn't they? A major river I fish here in Ohio has a huge electric power plant on it. The water from the river looks like it is used as some kind or radiator for the plant. The water is much warmer right below the plant. I wonder if something like that is going on where they are and are able to over winter that way?

I wonder how reliable these accounts are too though. I read another report the other day where "1000's of snake heads" were caught.

welp, if you really want one, grab a bigass cooler, a small inverter and airpump, and go...
don't bring back for anyone but yourself, tell no one, etc. otherwise, you're gonna get caught.

Not all snakeheads are tropical, some like the C. argus are from places like Korea which has hot summers but fiercely cold winters, picture N. Dakota with mountains, they could survive in all the states except maybe Alaska and are one of the larger species. Quite tasty.

yes the potomic river haspowerplants and factorys on it that use the watter for cooling the facilitys. Wich in turn makes the watter warmer in them specific areas. I realy do wana get up there and fish for them.Maybe i take this land cruiser i just bought today and go up and give it a shot.

this is bad news for the eco system there. :(
what can be done?
Not too long ago here in New York City they found bunch of Snakeheads in this semi-large lake that they think someone dropped in there not too long ago. Since the Snakeheads ended up killing everything, the whole lake had to be poisoned.. and later on the fish that are suppose to be in there will be re-introduced.

Eat them!
