So I'm going to be leaving out of town for 9 days and am wondering what I'm going to do with my pea puffers. Can they go 9 days without food? I don't want them to starve!

Should I just get a bunch of snails and throw them in their tank? Will they eat them sparingly? Any other ideas?

I would pribably do the following:

1) fatten them up now
2) dont feed 1 or 2 days before you leave
3) do a large water change the night before you leave
4) add some snails the day you leave for food

Do you think this would be pretty successful?

I can probably come back once between the 9 days but i really dont want too because its going to be a long drive back.

I'm not sure on puffers given I've never kept them, but most adult fish can go WEEKS without any food being added to the tank. IMO, if you can't be there to manage your tanks and you don't have anyone experienced to care for them, do a water change before you leave and don't feed them while you are gone.

Let them go on a fast, they'll be absolutely fine. 9 days is nothing.
As others have stated, feed them well leading up to the day you're leaving, and w/c the day of or the day before you leave.

I'm not sure if anyone's tried this but I was thinking you can put a bunch of snail in a contain and have holes in it that's large enough for the snail to go out but small enough to prevent the puffer fish from going it so that way, over the weeks, as snail get out of the container, you puffer will have some snail to eat.

As others have said just fast it, before you go do a good water change, and add a heap of snails for food, and it should be fine when you get back. 9 days is not that long away.

For sure thanks guys. Ive got some big cichlids that i know can go days without eating but I wasnt sure with small 1 inch puffers.

I like that snail container idea by the way thomas

I've never had a fish starve while I've been on the road. I've had many fish die from over feeding while fish-sitting while I'm on the road.

if it's under a few weeks and they're Mature I say let them fast.

Snails are a brilliant idea for puffers
