Lenticulata Pike Cichlid Mates?

What fish have people had success housing with Lenticulata Pikes?

Hoplarchus
Myleus
Cichla
Geophagus
Heros

As long as the tank is large enough and there is no major size disparity between tank mates they seem to get along well with most everything.

Several different large cichlids. As long as they aren't other pikes or pike shaped, he didn't seem to mind them.

Cool! Thanks! How big have yours ended up getting? Internet says up to 15" on one site, 20" on another. Ever grow one out completely?

Won't the leaves rot?

Won't the leaves rot?

Nope. They just sort of disintegrate and get filtered out. What doesn't get filtered out is easy enough to siphon out. It is a bare bottom tank which makes it easier. Gravel may be problematic.

Mine maxed out around 12" to 14", much larger than that is pushing it. They are well over three years old now, almost four. If you are wanting a larger pike, go with Crenicichla cincta. They get quite large, and are thick to boot.

Tankmates work out best if grown up with the pike. You think of it, it can work. If it won't work, the pikes have a way of letting you know. Large enough would be within 3", much smaller or larger than that and you can have issues quickly. Although I do have a huge Red Tailed Giant Gourami with mine that is sort of a peace keeper between the pikes. LoL

BTW Mark, still love that tank. I shalt do that again someday, with bare bottom this time. You are correct that with gravel its a pain. Hahaha

I got 10-11" one a few days ago and the only fish he went after was my belly Crawler Pike, I moved the belly crawler to another tank. Since taking the belly crawler out, the lenticulata has switched to chasing my Indo dat around. My Indo is about the same length.
