Lets see this Mesoheros Gephyrus

Wow!!! Gorgeous :)

Is this the same cichlid as the ones above? This one has more green in him, and the ones at the top has more red in them?

Mine was sold as M. ornatum, and is only about 6" in the photo, but some believed it was gepherum, I was never quite sure.
And I don't know if even most local collectors know the difference.

Always has been confusing to me, what a Ornatum looks like and what a gepherum looks like, or hmm, are they the same cichlid, if they are different cichlids or the same cichlid?

Ornatum is described by Regan from the Rio Durango in northwestern Ecuador in 1905 as ornatum, while gephyrum is described from the Rio Dagua, Cordoba Colombia in 1923 by Eigenmann as ornatum gephyurm.
With the time lag, and difficulty of communication back then, the idea that they both could be describing the same species and not know it, could be a possibility.

and when you consider how a species in one river or lake can look quite different from the same species in another river or lake, the possibilities are endless.
As an example here are two Chuco intermedia I kept from different river systems.

and below the same species from a different river system.

I believe some extensive DNA testing will be needed, taken from wild caught individuals of different systems to know for sure

Oh okay thanks :)
